FITCHBURG — Firefighters responded to 440 Water Street on Wednesday evening after a fire broke out on the outside corner of a mixed-use building, according to Fire Chief Dante W. Suarez.
In a statement, Suarez said Group 4 companies were dispatched to the Water Street area around 5:18 p.m. on June 25, 2025, following a report of a fire on the side of a building.
Upon arrival, crews located the fire at the exterior of the building’s rear corner and rapidly stretched an attack line hose to knock it down before it could spread further.
In an email to News Link Live, Chief Suarez said the fire caused no damage to the building, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters, and no one was displaced.
The building at 440 Water Street houses both residential and commercial units, according to Chief Suarez.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation.
