Woman, 83, drowns in Long Sought For Pond in Westford

WESTFORD — An 83-year-old woman was pronounced dead this afternoon after she was found unresponsive in Long Sought For Pond.

According to a statement from the Westford Police Department, on Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 1:14 p.m., the Westford Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence on Dunstable Road following a report of a woman who was unconscious and not breathing.

While officers were responding to the scene, Westford Public Safety Telecommunicators were notified that the individual had been found in the water of Long Sought For Pond and was now located on a dock behind the residence.

Upon arrival, officers immediately began CPR and assisted fire personnel in life-saving efforts. Despite these measures, the woman – who was 83 years old – was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, investigators say there is no suspicion of foul play and no danger to the public. The incident remains under investigation by the Westford Police Department’s Special Services Division in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

“The Westford Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim and asks that members of the public and media respect the family’s privacy during this tragic time,” the department said in a statement.

Officials also thanked the officers, telecommunicators, and fire department personnel who responded within minutes and immediately took action to aid the victim.
