Webster man with 22 prior gun convictions arrested with ghost gun and high-capacity magazine

WEBSTER — On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, Officer Nicholas Caruso of the Webster Police Department was patrolling the area of East Main Street when he observed a vehicle with a male passenger pass his location.

According to a statement from the Webster Police Department, through a brief investigation, Officer Caruso identified the male passenger as Preston Jackson, who had a warrant out for his arrest.

According to police, Preston Jackson, 41, is a resident of Lincoln Street in Webster, MA.

“Officer Caruso briefly lost sight of the vehicle but later located it pulling into 24 Lincoln Street,” the Webster Police Department said in its statement. “Knowing that Mr. Jackson had previous firearms convictions on his Board of Probation criminal record, officer Caruso requested assistance from the other Officers working the shift.”

Officer Caruso drove down the driveway as Jackson stepped out of the vehicle from the passenger side.

At that time, Jackson was holding a backpack and a brown paper bag. When Officer Caruso informed him of the warrant, Jackson abruptly placed the bag in the rear passenger side of the vehicle before being handcuffed and taken into custody.

After securing Jackson in his cruiser, Officer Caruso searched the backpack he had attempted to discard during the arrest.

“A search revealed a Polymer 80 handgun with a Glock slide and barrel. The firearm did not have a serial number engraved on it, which is often referred to as a “Ghost Gun” due to the inability for Law Enforcement to trace the firearm,” the Webster Police Department said in its statement. “In addition to the handgun, a loaded 22 round high capacity Glock magazine was located along with loose .40 caliber ammunition. Mr. Jackson is a convicted felon which means he is federally prohibited from possessing firearms and or ammunition.”

According to Webster police, Jackson has a criminal record that includes 34 prior firearms charges, 22 of which resulted in guilty convictions for various firearms-related offenses.

Preston Jackson was arrested and charged with the following:

  1. Warrant
  2. Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm without a License
  3. Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device without a License
  4. Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  5. Possession of a Firearm without a Permit

Jackson’s bail was set at $50,000.

He was arraigned in Dudley District Court on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Jackson is currently being held at the Worcester County House of Corrections pending a dangerousness hearing.
