FITCHBURG — A two-alarm fire early this morning displaced 15 residents from a multifamily home on West Street.
According to a statement from the Fitchburg Fire Department, fire crews were dispatched to 15–17 West Street at approximately 2:31 a.m. following a report of a building fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the front of the building and struck a second alarm.

“Companies deployed attack lines, established a water supply, and conducted suppression operations,” the department said in a statement. “The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down, and extensive overhaul operations conducted.”

No injuries were reported.
The 15 displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
