Seven displaced after Raynham house fire on Broadway; one cat killed

RAYNHAM — At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Raynham Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from a single-family home at 1587 Broadway (Route 138).

According to a statement from Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita, crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the back of the home.

Seven occupants — along with five cats, a rabbit, and two snakes — escaped from the burning home. One cat died in the fire.

Crews from West Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Easton, and Taunton assisted on scene, while the Middleboro Fire Department covered the Raynham station. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within roughly 30 minutes.

No injuries to firefighters or human occupants were reported, though two residents were evaluated by emergency medical services at the scene.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation temporarily closed Broadway between Elm and Wilbur streets while crews worked. The roadway reopened around 10:30 a.m. The American Red Cross was dispatched to assist the displaced occupants.

“As always, I’d like to thank the Raynham Police Department and our mutual aid partners — the West Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Easton, Taunton and Middleboro fire departments — who immediately responded to assist at the scene and at the station,” Chief LaCivita said. “House fires like this should serve as vital reminders to homeowners to ensure their smoke alarms are functioning properly. Smoke alarms save lives and property and make all of our jobs a little bit easier.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Raynham Fire Department, Raynham police, and the Massachusetts State Police.
