Bridgewater firefighters extinguish early morning deck fire on Pratt Avenue

BRIDGEWATER — On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 4:11 a.m., the Bridgewater Fire Department received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a fire on the deck of a single-family home at 116 Pratt Avenue.

According to Bridgewater Fire Chief John Schlatz, Engine 4 and Ambulance 4 were the first units to arrive and found fire extending from the deck up the rear left corner of the home toward the roofline.

“Lieutenant Casey Florence requested a working fire assignment due to the visible fire conditions, bringing additional resources to the scene,” Chief Schlatz said.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire using water from Engine 4’s tank and searched the inside of the home for any fire extension. Crews then completed overhaul operations outside.

The home’s occupants were alerted by working smoke alarms and evacuated before firefighters arrived on scene. No injuries were reported.

The Bridgewater Fire Department’s response included Car 1, Car 2, Car 4, Car 5, Engine 3, Engine 4, Tower 1, and Ambulance 4. The West Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident.

Most fire crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:17 a.m., while Car 5 remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

“Exterior fires have the potential to rapidly escalate and cause significant damage both inside and outside a structure,” Chief Schlatz said. “Our crews arrived on scene quickly and did a great job getting to the source of the fire to prevent widespread damage.”

The fire remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Department and the Bridgewater Police Department.
