“Armed person in crisis” expected to face charges after discharging firearms from Princeton residence

PRINCETON — On Saturday, June 20, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Princeton Police Officer Robert Sargood responded to a report of an intoxicated person in crisis who was discharging a firearm from a residence on Hickory Drive.

According to Princeton Police Chief Paul Patriarca, Officer Sargood responded to the scene and immediately requested mutual aid due to the nature of the incident.

Massachusetts State Police and officers from West Boylston, Sterling, Westminster and Holden assisted Princeton police at the scene, Chief Patriarca said.

Police established contact with the individual after arriving on scene.

“Following coordinated efforts by responding personnel, the suspect was rendered safe without incident,” Chief Patriarca said.

A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of a handgun and spent shell casings from the property, Chief Patriarca said. Police also checked nearby residences for evidence of bullet strikes or injuries, but none were found.

The suspect is expected to face the following charges:

  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of an occupied dwelling (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm without a valid firearms identification card or license to carry (three counts)
  • Possession of ammunition without a valid firearms identification card or license to carry (one count)

No members of the public, responding officers, or the suspect were injured during the incident.

Chief Patriarca thanked mutual aid partners and commended the “professionalism and restraint” shown by responding personnel, saying their coordinated efforts helped bring the dangerous situation to a safe resolution.
