MILFORD — On Sunday, July 19, 2026, at approximately 7:03 p.m., the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call from Shadowbrook Quarries reporting an 18-year-old woman fell from a rock ledge onto jagged rocks approximately 12 feet below.
According to the Milford Police Department, Milford police officers and firefighters, as well as Coastal EMS personnel, were dispatched to the quarry.
Milford police officers were the first to arrive on scene and were led to the woman by witnesses, who reported that she had briefly lost consciousness following the fall.
After climbing down to reach her, officers found the woman conscious and bleeding from several areas while lying amongst broken bottles and leaves. Police said the woman had no memory of the fall.
Milford firefighters and Coastal EMS personnel lowered rescue equipment to the woman and safely lifted her to the surface. She was then taken by utility terrain vehicle to an ambulance waiting on scene before she was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
“We’re grateful for the outstanding teamwork displayed by our police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and communications officers for bringing this patient to safety,” Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said.
Tusino said the incident demonstrated the dangers posed by the quarries, including steep rock faces, unstable terrain, and limited access for emergency responders.
“While we’re thankful this incident did not have an even more tragic outcome, it serves as an important reminder that the quarries are not a safe place for recreation,” Tusino said. “We continue to strongly discourage anyone from entering the property or swimming in the quarries.”
