Bellingham police seek suspect after man breaks in through window, assaults resident

BELLINGHAM — Police are asking residents for security camera footage as they investigate a reported break-in and assault near South Main and Mann streets.

According to the Bellingham Police Department, on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Bellingham police responded to the area of South Main Street and Mann streets following a report of a residential break-in.

When officers arrived on scene, they were informed that a man had allegedly climbed through a window and assaulted one of the residents. The suspect was described as a thin man between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The Bellingham Police Department reported that patrols have increased in the area throughout all hours of the day and night. Detectives are also canvassing the area for evidence and surveillance footage.

Bellingham police urged residents to secure exterior doors and windows, particularly overnight, and promptly report suspicious people or activity.

Police are asking residents to review doorbell or security camera footage for any activity between 11:00 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2026, and 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 15, 2026. Footage may be emailed to Detectives@bellinghamma.org.
