UXBRIDGE – On Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Uxbridge Police Officer William Ethier was dispatched to Uxbridge District Court to speak with security regarding a possible restraining order violation.

“Upon arrival, I was met by court officers who informed me that the victim…was inside,” Officer Ethier said.
Officer Ethier asked the victim if she would speak with him in Courtroom 2 regarding the potential restraining order violation.
“[The victim] was accompanied by a family friend into Courtroom 2,” Officer Ethier said. “[The victim] informed me that she arrived at court this morning to speak to the judge regarding the restraining order that she had taken out yesterday against her husband, Derek Bettencourt.”
According to police, Derek Bettencourt, 44, is a resident of Uxbridge, MA.
“She stated that while at court she went onto her ring camera to check on her daughter and dogs who were at home and she was unable to access the cameras,” Officer Ethier said. “[She] stated she used to have access to all the cameras on the property and now she believes that Mr. Bettencourt changed the system so she could no longer have access.”
At this time, Officer Ethier asked the victim to remain in the courtroom while he spoke with Assistant District Attorney Lisa Wells and the clerk magistrate.
“Upon further discussion, it was determined that Mr. Bettencourt violated the restraining order after denying [the victim] access to the cameras,” Officer Ethier said.
Officer Ethier said Sergeant Josiah Morrissette served Bettencourt with the 209A abuse prevention order in hand at 2:41 p.m. the previous day, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.
“[The victim] was informed that charges for the violation would be taken out against Mr. Bettencourt,” Officer Ethier said.
Derek Bettencourt, 44, of Uxbridge, was charged with:
- Violation of an abuse prevention order: “Mr. Bettencourt cut off [the victim’s] access to the security cameras placed around the residence and denied her access to view the video footage, violating box three of the restraining order,” Officer Ethier said.
Bettencourt’s arraignment was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2026, in Uxbridge District Court.
