SOUTHBOROUGH — On Friday, Sept. 19, at approximately 1:07 a.m., Southborough Police Officer Cole Trainor was conducting radar speed enforcement at the intersection of Turnpike and White Bagley roads when he observed a westbound Nissan Rogue on Turnpike Road with a non-functioning headlight.
According to a statement from Southborough’s Police Chief Ryan Newell, Officer Trainor stopped the vehicle and learned that the driver, who was identified as Michael Malique Brown, 30, of Dorchester, had a suspended license. He also had an active arrest warrant out of Chicopee District Court for failing to appear on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license.
“Officer Theodore Davis arrived to provide backup, and Brown was arrested without incident,” Chief Newell said.

During a search of the vehicle, Officer Davis found a bag on the front passenger-side floor containing a 9mm SCCY CPX-1 semiautomatic handgun loaded with nine rounds, including one in the chamber.
“Brown does not have a valid license to carry firearms,” Chief Newell said in the statement.
Michael Malique Brown was arrested and charged with the following offenses/violations:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License (Third Offense)
- Possession of Ammunition Without a Firearm Identification Card
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Lights Violation
- Failure to Wear a Seat Belt
Brown was booked at the Southborough Police Station, where a clerk set his bail at $5,000 pending his arraignment Friday in Westborough District Court.
“This case shows how a simple traffic stop can prevent a dangerous situation,” said Chief Newell. “Our officers are trained to look beyond the initial reason for a stop and remain alert to potential threats. I’m proud of the proactive work that led to removing an illegal firearm from our streets and making our community safer.”
