AYER — On Monday, October 6, 2025, at approximately 9:12 a.m., Ayer Police Officer Jared Splaine was observing traffic from a stationary position on E Main Street when he noticed a man driving outbound in a gray Toyota Prius with Massachusetts plates while wearing a pair of white over-the-ear headphones covering both of his ears.

“I pulled into traffic and initiated a motor vehicle stop on Harvard Road,” Officer Splaine said. “The operator, who did not possess a physical driver’s license of any kind, identified himself as Zakhar Bolshakov by writing his name on my notepad.”
According to police, Zakhar Bolshakov, 51, is a resident of Stoughton, MA.
In addition to not having his driver’s license on him, Officer Splaine said Bolshakov had an active warrant for his arrest out of Westborough District Court.
“I relayed this information to dispatch and requested an additional unit,” Officer Splaine said, adding that Officer Jacob Noll was dispatched to the scene to assist.
“Upon Officer Noll’s arrival, I ordered Zakhar out of his vehicle,” Officer Splaine said. “I placed Zakhar under arrest without incident.”
Officer Splaine handcuffed Bolshakov, conducted a search of his person, and then placed him in the rear of his cruiser.
“I requested the next available tow from dispatch,” Officer Splaine said. “Officer Noll and I conducted an inventory of the vehicle. I then transported Zakhar to the station. Zakhar was noticeably anxious for the duration of the transport.”
Officer Splaine said Terranova Autobody arrived to tow the vehicle as he was clearing the scene.
“Upon arrival at the station, and prior to booking, Zakhar insisted on being let out of the cruiser in the sally port,” Officer Splaine said. “Zakhar spent approximately five minutes dry heaving over a trash can.”
Officer Splaine reported that he asked Bolshakov if he required medical attention, and Bolshakov said no, explaining that the arrest was making him nervous.
“Zakhar asked for water, which Officer Noll provided,” Officer Splaine said. “Zakhar was booked according to department policy by Officer Noll. Zakhar took a break to vomit at one point, at which time I offered an ambulance. Zakhar declined, stating that he was simply nervous and embarrassed. Zakhar was placed in male cell 5 at 10:25 a.m.”
Zakhar Bolshakov was charged with the following violations/offenses:
- Warrant Arrest
- License not in Possession
- Unsafe Operation of Motor Vehicle
Bolshakov’s arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 6, 2025, in Ayer District Court.
Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the arrest in this story took place in October, that’s because I had to file FOIA request(s) to obtain the court documents. FOIAs are time-consuming.
